Not opening this weekend according to K's twitter feed:

@KapitolPhoto - no plans to open this weekend. We need some cold temps from Ma Nature!

I wouldn't be so optimistic about this weekend. I'm sure Killington wants to put out a good, quality product that won't get skied off instantly. I'm thinking next weekend... :D

The cold front just came through my town with severe thunderstorms and pea sized hail which now covers the ground. I can break out my ski's and get first tracks in Connecticut.

No way K opens this weekend. Forecast at 3500ft just took a turn for the worse. It originally looked like there was going to be a continuous 30-40hr window for snowmaking (tonight through Saturday morning). It now seems that the window is considerably shorter, only allowing for snowmaking overnight tonight and perhaps overnight tomorrow. Definitely not enough to open. Not even close.

Furthermore, things don't look good next week either. No snowmaking windows at all from Saturday to Thursday. Sorry, folks, but this means it's extremely unlikely we'll be skiing Halloween weekend. Here's the revised forecast:

------------
Late Afternoon: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 43. West wind between 11 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: A chance of r*in showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. West wind between 9 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. West wind between 13 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. West wind between 11 and 13 mph.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. West wind between 8 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: A chance of r*in and snow showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: A chance of r*in and snow showers before 8am, then a chance of r*in showers. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday Night: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday: A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 50.

the mtn has a much better detailed forecast used for mtn ops. the noaa forecasts are vague to say the least in comparison to K's forecast...
