Friday 11-21 Report

Post by Inarvi »

Fist day for the season. 10:00 start and the summit thermometer read 12 with snow coming down. Great cover and and fast snow everywhere. Hit everything that was open. I was very happy to see the canyon open for my first day of the season with a significantly bumped up lower east fall(which for some reason was temporarily marked double black). Two laps on that and my first day legs really felt it. Everything was well groomed except for the untouched upper and lower east fall. ROTD was mouse run/middle chute/lower bunny which provided the least crowed route and the best turns. GN was slightly skied off in the usual spots by 2. Didnt see many guns on the usual suspects on snowdon and the cayon, but heard them off on sky, rams and snowshed. I see they have not fixed the peak sewage aroma from last year. Overall grade B+

My first day of the season also. Out at 9 (gondola down so huge crowd at ST) and held out to almost 3:30 with about 45 minutes for lunch. Nice to have such a good variety of trails for Day 1. Looks like they are working hard at laying down base on Skye, Rams and Snowshed. They were clearing the loading and unload areas and cleaning the seats on the Canyon Quad this afternoon, so that will be coming on line tomorrow.

Also first day on my new Fischer Superior SCs that I picked up on EBay a month or so ago. Great grip on the firm stuff and they almost turn automatically as you would expect from a narrow race carver.

With mother nature contributing 2" of fresh powder and cold dry temperatures which allowed Killington's snowmakers to max out the system with 250 guns firing, today was stellar for early season. Switch was the problem on the Gondola which was quickly repaired, but there was a stampead to the Snowden triple once the word spread on the delay. Conditions today were much better today with no watermelons to be found rolling down East fall. Today was busier than yesterday, but crowds were nicely dispersed. More terrain should be on line for the weekend.
I will give the day a solid A, so I hope you found some time today Jeff to visit K Zone and see your grade for your teams effort!
