I'll go on record saying I don't think he intended to make a Nazi salute. Did it look like one? Maybe. But I think calling him a Nazi because of this is a bit outrageous. This is SNL skit material not a serious political issue.

Searching Google I came up with this AI interpritation of Musk's gesture.

You know, under some circumstances, I might be willing to give Musk the benefit of the doubt. However, if you know his background coming from South Africa, I might think twice. He comes from a wealthy family and was raised in Pretoria, a heavily Boer city. It was the Boers who leaned heavily into apartheid and ran the country until apartheid could no longer be defended. Many Boers sympathized with the Nazis, although I have no idea whether his family was among them. Nevertheless, I would have to think that Elon knew the history and had to know what that salute would look like to many.
