Moose on Rte 4

Post by LINYbob »

We were heading back to Killington on Friday and there was stopped traffic from at least Pico up to the Long Trail around noon. As we got to the top of the hill, we saw a car on the other side with a totally smashed windshield and crushed in roof. I told my wife that probably the car had flipped over. There were no cops or ambulances around. Across the street on the eastbound side there was a moose staggering around. He did not look too good. A civilian was trying to get the cars to move yelling out to everyone that the moose was going to freak out and to keep moving. A number of people had pulled over and were taking pictures. We drove on and noticed that the moose's right shoulder was all bloody and looked really bad. My wife called the VSP, but they said they already knew about it and were sending someone to put the moose down. I was surprised that there was no cop or ambulance there anyway - it looked like it had been at least 10 -15 minutes based on the traffic. I guess they were busy running radar traps or something. Did anyone else see this or hear what happened?

that car didnt flip, it hit the moose which is why the roof and windshield were all banged up. the moose was put down shortly after as i heard from an eye witness...

It was my Father-in-Law that hit the moose. He walked away with cuts on his hands. He said there was nothing he could do to avoid the moose.

That be 2 dead in about 2 weeks. Someone hit one just south of Plymouth. Saw a moose off to the side, swerved to avoid it and then a 2nd one was in front of the car. Hit the sucka about the time they saw it.

Stop for Moose, it could save your life.
