Re: Can the “Gore Effect” save Killington?

Re: Sunday, Feb 5, 2012
The weekend wasn't that bad. Groomers skied like groomers, crowded on Saturday and skied off in patches but all things considered I think Killington skied pretty well. Spent the morning skiing blue groomers with my 5 year old and the afternoon ducking into the trees with my brother. Woods were anyth...

Can the “Gore Effect” save Killington?
This very warm and mostly dry winter is driving me crazy. Where is my beloved tree skiing? You all understand that this warmth is a local North American effect not shared by the rest of the very chilly globe. Global averaged temperatures have been crashing for months now and the current global tempe...

Re: Killington legal/ environmental issues?
You should look for an article called “Lawyers go at it. Strange bedfellows claim land confiscation” from Vermont Business Magazine Feb 1 1995. For some interesting Land Use/ Environmental issues involving Killington. Or try to find this (I found a draft online) KILLINGTON MOUNTAIN RESORT: A CASE ST...

Re: One more trail...
Tough year to run a ski area in the Northeast! I think we can all find some sympathy for the management on how challenging this year has been.... but ...YES! ONE more trail is not too much to ask! One more steep trail getting snow would be a wonderful message from management that they feel our pain....

BMMC or Dew Tour which is/was better?
I know this is beating the proverbial dead horse but… I was reading the Dew Tour thread and.... After the second year of the ongoing spectacle of the Dew Tour a question might be asked…. Which is/was better? BMMC or Dew? The contrast really is interesting. The Dew Tour has its fans… are you one of t...

Re: The Economic Impacts of Killington's Dew Tour Stop
What did the Dew do? I’m actually glad to hear some “big picture” thinking from Nyberg. “The bigger value is after—the post-tour still has resonance with the people down country” Yes, thinking past the initial bean counting of an event is a crucial aspect of good administration. Let’s hope this log...

Re: Wild Woods Weekend…who shut off The Light?
Don't feel too good about it. If one reads this thread carefully, I think you guys just told all the uninitiated how to find The Light. OK I will readily acknowledge that it is bad form to release info on the inter webs which gives away the location of secret tree lines and powder stashes but…. The...

Re: Wild Woods Weekend…who shut off The Light?
Any conviction to the theory that this was debris cleared from marked trails and pushed into the "open spaces" along the edge of the woodline, with no deliberate intention to block exits? I would agree with this. Killington has better things to do than intentionally block unmarked glades....

Wild Woods Weekend…who shut off The Light?
Great to be back in the woods… Saturday morning had some magic moments. Lots of powder to kick around. Yes the base is not very deep and snow snakes lurked at every turn and it was easy find bottom here and there but there was also some deep stuff around. I agree with Coydog that there were some ver...

Killington's Grooming Policy
Not everybody likes polls but I really liked the idea of finding out how the K-Zone community feels about different issues. Quite frankly I was relieved to see how high skiers Mountains ( Stowe, Mad River, etc) rated compared to vacationer’s mountains (Okemo, Stratton). It says something about you a...

Re: Improvements anounced
. . . Pushing for Village but not Interconnect!? They just don't get that the Interconnect with its trail expansion is the main thing that might actually sell the village. We were so close to getting the Interconnect when the bottom fell out 11-12 years ago. If they just started blasting 1-2 years ...

Re: Snowdon reconfiguration....
First of all Pico IS NOT a financially struggling resort. Pico is just fine. The interconnect will be a disaster for Pico. Currently Pico offers an alternative that is the 100% opposite experience of being at Killington on the same pass as Killington. It's mellow. It's homey. It still gets crowded ...

Re: Snowdon reconfiguration....
I think all the talk about making Snowdon more user friendly for intermediate skiers misses some crucial issues. Snowdon is really not ideal terrain for crowds of beginners & intermediates. Snowdon terrain has a little bit of everything with a few unavoidable steep pitches scattered about. Tryin...

Re: Finding the Steepest trail segments using Google Earth Path
Very interesting comments from all. Seen lots of other estimates of steepness including all those mentioned….but as per usual the Devil is in the details. And I know OL is not a 61 degree slope (way too steep) and probably not a 61% slope (a bit too flat). But The 61%, whatever it means, is steeper ...
